The Governor-General in Council has appointed Stewart Anderson QC as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

It is with deep regret that the Bar Council informs members of the death this morning of the Honourable John (‘Jack’) Winneke AC RFD QC. Jack was 81.

A Memorial Service for the Honourable John (‘Jack’) Winneke AC RFD QC is to take place on Friday 12th April 2019 at 3.30pm at Scots Church, corner of Russell and Collins Streets, Melbourne.

Portraits in paint, photography and tapestry by internationally renowned artists of Victoria’s eminent judges and barristers have been unveiled at the Victorian Bar.

Works by artists including Louise Hearman, Polly Borland, David Rosetzky, Sally Ross and John Gollings AM and the Australian Tapestry workshop weavers, Chris Cochius and Pamela Joyce, have been unveiled by the Honourable Chief Justice Kiefel AC, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, marking the re-design of the Peter O’Callaghan QC Gallery and the inauguration of the Hartog Berkeley QC room within the gallery.

The Victorian Bar joins with the Law Council of Australia in expressing its disappointment at the lack of adequate response by governments, at all levels, one year on from the release of the Australian Law Reform Commission’s important Pathways to Justice report.

The Governor-General in Council has appointed Judge Norah Hartnett as a judge of the Family Court of Australia.
