Barristers with family responsibilities

Ensuring those with family and caring responsibilities can fully participate in life and work at the Bar is fundamental to the Victorian Bar.

Our commitment to barristers with family responsibilities

The Bar is committed to applying best practice principles by fostering flexibility to achieve a better balance between work and family responsibilities for all barristers. This flexibility means barristers can make arrangements that help them successfully manage their family commitments while attending to their practices and advancing their careers.

Assistance for barristers with family responsibilities

The Bar has endorsed the following activities and policies:

  • Parental leave policy to assist those taking leave to care for children by reason of pregnancy or a child coming into their care and custody.
  • Organised and ongoing activities designed to ensure barristers are re-integrated with their peers after a prolonged absence.
