Appointment - Stewart Anderson QC

The Governor-General in Council has appointed Stewart Anderson QC as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia.

Mr Anderson was admitted to practice in 1985. He came to the Bar in 1987 and read with Simon Wilson QC.

Mr Anderson mentored eight readers before being appointed silk in 2005. He served on the Supreme Court Corporations & Commercial Court Users’ Group for many years, as well as the Bar’s New Barristers Committee for two years and the BCL Board of Directors for one year. He served on the Executive of the Commercial Bar Association for three years as Vice President and Senior Vice-President.

At the Bar, Mr Anderson has specialised in commercial law, particularly corporations law, banking and finance, superannuation, property, contracts, and equity and trusts. He has extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, including in a number of class actions.

Mr Anderson will commence in the Melbourne registry on 6 May 2019.
