It is with deep regret that the Bar Council informs members of the death of Joan Dwyer OAM, who passed away peacefully last week at the age of 79, after a five-year battle with cancer.

A celebration of the life of Joan Dwyer OAM will be held at Leonda by the Yarra, 2 Wallen Road, Hawthorn on Thursday 19 September at 1.30 for 2pm.

Fifteen of Hume City’s brightest young legal minds have been recognised as part of the Victorian Bar Foundation’s Student Achievement Awards.

Each of the award winners, from a variety of Hume secondary schools, received $1000 from the Foundation and $500 from Hume City Council.

Magistrates' Court of Victoria

The Governor in Council has today appointed her Honour Judge Lisa Hannan as Chief Magistrate of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, commencing on 17 November 2019.

Judge Hannan will replace Chief Magistrate Lauritsen on his retirement from the role.

There is a meeting being held on 17th September at 5.30 pm at the Law Institute in relation to the proposed changes to VLA funding about which we were notified last week. It would be wonderful to have members of the Association attend the meeting.
