Shannon has developed extensive experience in a broad range of civil and administrative jurisdictions, and maintains a versatile generalist practice. Her areas of practice span across administrative law, costs law, coroner's inquests, commissions and enquiries, guardianship matters, as well as family and children’s law. Regularly appearing, Shannon is an experienced advocate in matters at first instance and on appeal.
Shannon is a culturally attuned barrister who excels at providing sensitive legal advice to clients from diverse backgrounds, ensuring their unique needs and perspectives are understood and respected throughout the legal process. She has a strong interest in advocating for social justice and human rights, and regularly appears representing refugees in merits and judicial review of migration decisions. She has appeared in the Coroner's Court assisting to identify prevention opportunities in healthcare systems.
Shannon advises and appears in matters determining costs, and regularly run CPDs on this topic at Leo Cussens. She has taught Evidence Law at Deakin University since 2019.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Shannon was Associate to the Judicial Registrar Burchell and Judicial Registrar Tran (as they were) at the County Court of Victoria. As an Associate, Shannon gained significant experience assisting the Judicial Registrars in all interlocutory matters, judicial resolution conferences, as well as a number of civil trials.
Shannon worked as a Registered Nurse from 2007 to 2020, and holds graduate and postgraduate qualifications in nursing. She has extensive clinical experience in metropolitan and country health care, including working as a renal nurse in the remote Northern Territory. Shannon has a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, disease and pathology, health interventions and pharmacology, and healthcare systems.
