Chrisanthi accepts briefs in criminal, quasi-criminal (including OH&S prosecutions) and regulatory matters, including regulatory prosecutions and professional disciplinary hearings. Chrisanthi has experience in all jurisdictions and accepts briefs in metropolitan and rural courts.
Chrisanthi has particular expertise in regulatory compliance in a range of areas including: environmental offences, Crown land, local council, and animal welfare offences.
Chrisanthi is a highly skilled advocate with over 13 years’ experience who appears regularly in the Children’s, Magistrates’, County and Supreme Courts in a wide variety of matters. Her experience includes both summary and indictable proceedings, appearing in plea hearings, contested bail applications, breach proceedings, contested hearings, committals, Children’s Court matters and the Appellate jurisdiction.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Chrisanthi worked as the Managing Principal Solicitor and Principal Solicitor of the Prosecutions Team of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), where she led a legal team responsible for prosecuting criminal environmental offences and for the provision of legal advice across a broad range of laws. Over 8 years, Chrisanthi developed extensive knowledge of complex regulatory regimes and statutory offences.
Chrisanthi began her career as a criminal defence solicitor at Leanne Warren and Associates, one of the leading criminal law firms in Melbourne, where she managed a busy summary and indictable crime practice.
Chrisanthi also has extensive experience in preparing and providing training to compliance and enforcement staff on brief and court preparation and presentation, evidence gathering and compliance options.
