Sarah practices primarily in the areas of administrative law and criminal law.
Administrative Law
Sarah accepts briefs in disciplinary proceedings, regulatory matters, public law and inquests. She has appeared in numerous professional disciplinary matters, both as counsel assisting and on behalf of the individual. These include AHPRA investigations under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law, proceedings under the Legal Profession Uniform Law, prosecutions by local government agencies, inquiries before the Building Practitioners Board and matters before the Architects Registration Board of Victoria.
She has advised and appeared on behalf of various government agencies in a range of areas, such as regulatory compliance, privilege claims and public interest immunity claims. These include the Legal Services Board, Victoria Police and the Department of Education and Training.
Criminal Law
Sarah appears for the defence and prosecution in all areas of criminal law across all jurisdictions. She has been briefed in many complex criminal matters involving charges of murder, preparatory terrorism offences, offences under the Corporations Act, sexual offences and commercial drug trafficking. She is regularly briefed in post-sentence applications under the Serious Offenders Act.
Sarah has a particular interest in appellate law and appears unled in the Court of Appeal. She also has an extensive written advocacy practice and is frequently briefed to provide written advice on regulatory and criminal matters, including evidentiary issues and prospects of conviction.
Sarah graduated from Monash University with First Class Honours.
She is a Victoria Legal Aid Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister and was selected to participate in VLA’s Trial Counsel Development Program in 2019.
