Barnaby practises principally in planning and environment law. He also has particular expertise in administrative law, local government law, and in respect of land acquisition and compensation.
Barnaby regularly appears on behalf of both private and public sector clients before the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation, and Planning Panels Victoria.
Barnaby has been a Senior Fellow of the University of Melbourne Law School since 2010 where he lectures in planning law and environment law as part of the Melbourne Law Masters Program.
In 2007 Barnaby completed a LLM. degree at New York University (focusing on environmental, land use and administrative law). Throughout 2008 he was a fellow of New York University’s Centre for Environmental Law and Land Use Law where he worked on the preparation of a textbook on environmental law (Richard L. Revesz, Environmental Law and Policy, Foundation Press (2008)).
Prior to joining the Bar Barnaby worked as an Associate in the Planning & Environment Group at Maddocks Lawyers.
