Marcus Hoyne specialises in media and defamation law and has more than 25 years’ experience in commercial litigation at both trial and appellate level. Although based in Melbourne, he is also a member of the New South Wales Bar and practices there.
Marcus has been consistently ranked as a leading junior counsel in Technology, Media and Telecommunications matters by Doyles Guide.
Over his career, Marcus has acted for all of the major media networks in Australia including Nine/Fairfax, News Limited, Channel 7, Channel 10, the ABC and a range of other media entities. He also acts for a number of individual and corporate clients.
Marcus is one of Australia’s most experienced telecommunications and IT junior barristers, having acted in a number of matters that have gone to the High Court. He has acted for a variety of wholesale and retail telecommunications clients (including TPG. Iinet and Primus amongst others) and for and against software developers and hardware manufacturers in a number of matters.
Marcus has extensive experience in other areas of commercial litigation and administrative law including intellectual property, trade practices, building, pharmacy, sports law, insurance and migration law.
