Sam Hay has a very broad commercial practice at the Bar encompassing advice and appearance work at trial and appellate level. He appears in the superior courts. He has extensive experience in banking and finance disputes, corporations law, insurance disputes of all types, fraud and fiduciary matters, financial advice disputes, class actions, insolvency cases, trust disputes, professional negligence claims of all types and contract and trade practices disputes. He also has extensive experience in intentional tort cases and administrative law (judicial review) proceedings. Sam regularly appears in Royal Commissions and Commissions of Inquiry.
Sam:
- is a director of Barristers' Chambers Limited;
- is a member of the Victorian Legal Admissions Committee which was established by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board;
- is a member of the Indictable Crime Certificate Committee;
- was Junior Vice-President of the Victorian Bar Council;
- was Treasurer, and before that Assistant Treasurer, of the Victorian Bar Council;
- was the chair of the Bar’s Counsel Committee;
- was chair of the Bar's Audit, Finance and Risk Committee;
- was a trustee of the Barristers’ Benevolent Association of Victoria; and
- was Honorary Secretary, and before that Assistant Honorary Secretary, of the Victorian Bar Council.
