Rudi is currently a non-practicing member of the Bar amd teaches law at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He teaches Commercial Law, Civil Litigation Practice, Arbitration Law, Professional Practice, Administrative Law, Criminal Law and Property Law.
Since joining the Victorian Bar in 2007, Rudi practiced primarily in the areas of Commercial Law, Corporate Law, Resources Law, Employment Law and Extradition Law. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has advised and acted for companies in the energy and resources sector. He acted for clients in matters before the Federal Court, the Federal Magistrates Court, the Supreme Court, the County Court, Fair Work Australia, VCAT and the Social Security Appeals Tribunal.
From 2008 to 2015, Rudi was an advisor to Rio Tinto Energy. He advised the project team across a number of legal and regulatory areas concerning the divestment, including compliance, taxation, joint venture agreements, contractors, investment treaty provisions and general transactional matters.
Rudi was a member of the inaugural committee of the Victorian Bar's Climate Change and Environmental Law Panel, and has an active interest in the intersection between environmental law, international law and human rights law. He was also a member of the List Committee of Gordon & Jackson Barristers Clerks from 2008-2009.
Rudi graduated with the degrees BA and LLB from the University of Natal in South Africa in 1992. He completed his LLM degree in Procedural Law at the University of South Africa in 1998. Rudi has also done work for the ILO, including lecturing and co-authoring a paper on tripartite development indicators for conditions of work. Rudi was admitted as a Legal Practitioner in New South Wales in 2004. He signed the Bar Roll on 3 December 2007. Rudi is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
