assessing, recovery and inquiries section.
Employed as a Solicitor carrying out all types of Criminal and Civil work in
private practise early to mid-1982.
Employed as a Legal Officer, Senior Legal Officer and Acting Principal Legal
Officer in the Prosecution section of the Commonwealth Deputy Crown Solicitor's
Office in Melbourne. Which became the Special Prosecutions Office and then the
Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions Office from mid 1982 to mid-1986.
Work involved personally appearing in and instructing in all manner of
Commonwealth Prosecutions (Summary, Committals, Trials and Appeals) such as
Frauds on the Commonwealth, drug cases, customs and quarantine etc.
Signed the Bar Roll in November 1986.
Counsel's practice at the Bar has involved mainly appearing:
a) In all types of Criminal cases ranging from
summary hearings in the Children's and Magistrates' Court, Committals, County
Court Appeals and trials, pleas and bail applications in the Supreme and
appearances in the Court of Appeal. The majority of his work currently is in the
County Court. His trial work has involved both prosecution and defence work in
fraud, drug, assaults, rape, incest etc. Counsel has been involved in a major
drug trial of 3 months duration where the principal offender received a life
sentence.
b) Civil and Commercial cases in the Magistrates', County and Supreme
Courts. This has included conducting a number of causes in the County Court.
Matters included Contractual, Tort, Copyright, Building, Wills etc. appearances
and advice. Also Crimes Family Violence matters in the Magistrates' Court.
c) Appearances in the Family Court in Maintenance, Property, Residence
and Contract matters.
d) Appeared before the Equal Opportunity Board and Guardianship Board and
advised in Administrative appeals such as Social Security and Medical Board.
