Dr Aaron Lane practices in all areas of commercial, public law and white-collar crime.
Aaron has internationally recognised expertise in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. He also has a strong interest in matters involving economic or financial evidence.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Aaron was Special Counsel at Duxton Hill specialising in fraud, misconduct and financial crime. In this role he gained significant experience with matters involving AML/CTF obligations, employee misconduct, directors’ duties, freedom of information, investment scams, proceeds of crime, shareholder disputes, and regulatory enforcement.
Aaron commenced his legal career as a lawyer at Maddocks. In this role he acted in administrative law proceedings (judicial and merits review) and summary crime prosecutions. He also advised clients on anti-corruption legislation, commercial agreements, corporate governance, property transactions, and state taxation.
Aaron is a Senior Lecturer in Law at RMIT University and Senior Research Fellow in the RMIT Blockchain Innovation Hub. He holds honorary appointments at the UCL Centre for Blockchain Technologies and the George Washington University. Aaron has published widely and has co-authored three books and several peer reviewed articles in leading academic journals. He is also a reporter for the Victorian Law Reports.
Aaron holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from Deakin University, a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law, a Graduate Diploma and Master of Arts from the University of Divinity, and a Doctor of Philosophy from RMIT University.
Aaron is a member of the Blockchain Expert Group at Business at OECD and chairs the Digital Commerce Committee at the Law Council of Australia.
