James currently maintains a general practice, advising and appearing for clients in matters including but not limited to family law and de facto relationships (property and parenting), personal injury and public liability and general litigation at all levels.
As an articled clerk in 2008 and, upon being admitted, until 2010 James worked in Yarrawonga maintaining a general litigation practice, including family law, contract, tort, commercial, trade practices, deceased estate and property disputes in both Victoria and New South Wales.
From 2010 and until originally coming to the Bar in September 2011, James worked as a Senior Solicitor for the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation, giving general advice to stakeholders, appearing on behalf of the Commission at prosecutions and court hearings, instructing counsel and also appearing as Counsel Assisting the Commission at public inquiries relating to applications for approval of premises as suitable for electronic gaming machines, as well as applications to vary the number of electronic gaming machines permitted at venues.
At the Bar, James maintained his general practice before returning to practice as a general practice solicitor until July 2022, when he re-signed the Bar Roll.
James was previously a member of the Football Federation Victoria Tribunal and has appeared as an advocate in sports disciplinary tribunals and was previously a local councillor for Surf Coast Shire Council.
James is admitted to practise in New York, United States as an Attorney-at-law, and is also an accredited NMAS mediator.
