Sophie practices predominantly in criminal and quasi-criminal matters. She will accept prosecution and defence briefs.
As junior counsel, she has appeared in trials in the County and Supreme Court.
She is an experienced advocate who specialises in indictable crime, having worked in NSW and Victoria for both defence and the prosecution. Sophie has experience appearing in contested and uncontested criminal matters in the Magistrates, Children’s, County and District Court. She has also appeared in Supreme Court bail applications in New South Wales.
Sophie started her career as a criminal defence lawyer at Legal Aid New South Wales. She gained significant advocacy experience, appearing daily in the Children’s, Magistrates, District and Supreme Court. She appeared in a range of matters including committal hearings, bail applications, plea and sentence hearings. She spent 2 years working in the Children’s Court at Parramatta, followed by 4 years in the Trial Division at Sydney.
Immediately prior to coming to the Bar, Sophie worked in the Trial Division of the Office of Public Prosecutions. She managed a high file load made up of complex criminal matters including homicide, culpable driving, serious violence, drugs, fraud and sexual offending. She appeared in a number of County Court plea hearing.
Sophie sits on the Victorian Bar's Indigenous Justice Committee.
