Olive primarily practises in criminal law. She also accepts briefs in administrative law and in quasi-criminal law including regulatory matters, inquests and disciplinary tribunal proceedings. She appears almost daily in the Magistrates' Court across all aspects of criminal law matters. She also appears in the County Court regularly and has appeared recently in a complex fraud trial (led).
Prior to joining the Bar, Olive was a Senior Federal Prosecutor. She worked at the CDPP for nearly eight years mainly as a solicitor advocate, in various crime types including fraud, bankruptcy, drug importations, money laundering, cybercrime, child exploitation, firearms trafficking, human trafficking and slavery.
Olive has also worked at Victoria Legal Aid, Office of the Police Ombudsman (SA) and the Department of Children and Families (NT) and in private practice. Additionally, she was a Judge’s Associate to former Chief Justice Brian Martin and Justice Barr of the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory.
Olive also has a particular interest in International Humanitarian Law having undertaken legal internships at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in the Hague and the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials in Cambodia.
Olive has a Master of Laws (LLM) with Merit from the University of London and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with First Class Honours from the University of Adelaide.
