Nikolas is an experienced advocate practising primarily in public and administrative law, criminal and quasi-criminal law, and common law. He accepts briefs to appear led and unled in all Victorian courts and tribunals, including in trials, inquests, and appeals.
Nikolas has worked in commercial, government, and community legal environments. As a result, he understands how to meet the needs of a diverse range of clients on factually and legally complex matters in the criminal and public law spheres. His previous work has also left him with a strong interest in human rights and social justice issues, and he welcomes briefs to act for vulnerable clients.
Before coming to the Bar, Nikolas held senior roles at Aboriginal legal rights organisations across the country. Most recently, he was the managing lawyer of the ‘Wirraway’ specialist litigation team at the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service. There, he managed a team of solicitor-advocates handling strategic litigation, coronial inquests, and intentional torts matters.
Nikolas began his legal career at King & Wood Mallesons as a commercial litigator before joining the State Solicitor’s Office of Western Australia. In government service, he acted for public sector clients in administrative, civil, and criminal litigation. He also spent two years seconded to the WA Police Force where he handled matters concerning internal affairs and state intelligence.
Nikolas holds a Bachelor of Laws with Distinction and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Australia. In 2020, he completed the Master of Laws program at McGill University in Montreal. His LLM research focused on Australian and Canadian comparative constitutional law concerning recognition of Indigenous peoples.
Nikolas is reading with Karen Argiropoulos. His senior mentor is John Kelly SC.
