Bec's primary practice areas are in public law, environmental and planning law, negligence, and intentional torts. She also accepts briefs for inquests/inquiries, and appears regularly in general commercial matters. In 2023 Bec was one of the Counsel Assisting the Special Commission of Inquiry into LGBTIQ Hate Crimes (based in Sydney). Bec has a particular interest in matters involving complex questions of statutory interpretation.
Bec has appeared led and unled in a range of jurisdictions in NSW and Victoria. She appears unled regularly in the NSW Supreme Court, and has experience in Tribunals (including NCAT and VCAT), and in conducting matters before Commissioners in the Land and Environment Court.
Bec's background combines strong academic qualifications and a diverse experience of Australia's courts, which includes time as an Associate in the High Court (to the Hon. Justice Bell), and the Federal Court of Australia (to the Hon. Justice Farrell) as well as a Tipstaff in the Supreme Court of NSW and Court of Appeal (to the Hon. Justices Beazley and Sackar).
She completed a Bachelor of Civil Law (Distinction) at Oxford, a Master of Laws at the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Adelaide.
