Obituary — Gavan Leonard Rice

After a career as solicitor in Bairnsdale, and West Melbourne, Gavan signed the Bar Roll on 21 November 1985, and read with Michael Wright KC. He retired in 2017 after 32 years at the Bar.

Gavan had a varied practice in planning and commercial law and was an accredited mediator.

He was an amusing raconteur who entertained many at dinner parties and other social occasions. He also had an incorrigible attraction to luxury cars. He was a keen golfer and for many years he organised the annual golf competition day between Bar and the Law Institute of Victoria.
