Director of Public Prosecutions for the State of Victoria

The Governor in Council has today appointed Kerri Elizabeth Judd QC Director of Public Prosecutions for the State of Victoria.

Kerri Judd graduated Bachelor of Laws, and later also Master of Laws, from the University of Melbourne. She served Articles with Peter Megens at Wainwright Ryan and was admitted to practice in March 1989.

She remained briefly with Wainwright Ryan as a Solicitor; then served as Associate to Mr Justice Ian Gray, then as Associate to Mr Justice William Crockett – both of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

She signed the Bar Roll on 28 November 1991 and read first with Stephen Kaye (later QC; now Supreme Court Judge of Appeal) then, when he took Silk, with Kate McMillan (later SC; now Supreme Court Judge).

On leave from the Bar, she was, for a year, a Senior Legal Officer with the Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Service.

She served on the Victorian Bar Council and its Executive Committee; and on the Bar Ethics Committee; and had two Readers. She took Silk in 2007.

She was appointed a Senior Crown Prosecutor in August 2016 and Acting Chief Crown Prosecutor in December 2017.
