Using the Charter of Human Rights And Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic) in everyday practice

20Jul2022

This CPD is designed to assist practitioners in using the Charter of Human Rights And Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic) in their everyday practice. The Committee is delighted to have an eminently qualified panel to discuss and answer questions about these issues. Topics expected to be covered in the CPD include:

·         Interpretative vs unlawfulness arguments;

·         ‘Public authorities’ and the broad scope for Charter application;

·         The Charter in SCV;

·         The Charter in VCAT;

·         Technical requirements (notices, timeframes and more).

The overall objective of the discussion is to ensure that barristers are sensitive to the opportunities to use the Charter in everyday practice, including in pleadings, submissions and advice.
