Multi Systemic Therapy: working with families to address problematic and harmful behaviours

8Aug2022

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is a family and home based treatment which strives to change how young people function in their natural settings such as home, school and within the community – in ways that promote positive social behaviour while decreasing anti-social behaviour. Caregivers are provided support and skills by trained clinicians to address a young person’s problematic and challenging behaviour. These may include concerns such as negative peer association, school truancy, family conflict, absconding, substance misuse and anti-social behaviour in the community.

Caregivers are provided intensive outreach sessions during the week and have access to on-call support after hours and weekends. By empowering caregivers to address the systemic needs of a young person, we reduce the likelihood of young people engaging in high risk problematic behaviour.
