Finding and Using Sentencing Statistics

The aim of this interactive session is to help you learn about the various types of sentencing statistics publicly available in Victoria, and to feel confident that you can find the statistics you need when you need them. In this session, you will learn about:

·       why statistics are an important part of the sentencing process in Victoria;

·       how Victorian sentencing courts are using those statistics;

·       how to find current sentencing practices for specific offences, such as aggravated burglary;

·       the key differences between Sentencing Snapshots and SACStat, and when to use each product; and

·       how to find statistics on general sentencing and reoffending trends in Victoria.

Using a real-life case study, you will also have the opportunity to put what you learn into practice during the session.
