Disaster Legal Help Victoria & the Victorian Bar - Information Session

30Nov2022

Disaster Legal Help Victoria (DLHV) is a partnership between the Federation of Community Legal Centres, Justice Connect, the Law Institute of Victoria, Victoria Legal Aid, the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and the Victorian Bar. DLHV emerged out of the response to the 2009 Victorian bushfires and now has evolved to help prepare for, minimise the impact of, and address the legal needs of those affected by disasters.

In this seminar, the speakers will discuss the importance of pro bono work and how barristers can assist disaster-affected help-seekers in both immediate disaster recovery efforts, and in preparation and mitigation work such as merits advice, community legal education and casework facilitated through Justice Connect’s pro bono portal. They will also discuss which legal issues are most prevalent in disaster, the importance of identifying legal need and how this can prevent issues compounding.
