David accepts briefs in all areas of criminal law and quasi-criminal law, including inquests, disciplinary and regulatory matters.
David appears throughout Victoria in committal hearings, plea hearings, sentence appeals, contested hearings and pre-trial arguments in the Supreme, County and Magistrates’ Court. David is available to appear in post-sentence applications and reviews including supervision order proceedings and Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) hearings.
He has appeared as junior counsel in County and Supreme Court trials. David is a junior counsel in VLA's Trial Counsel Development Program (2022/2023).
Since coming to the bar, David has appeared and advised a broad range of government and other regulatory bodies including the VBA, RSPCA and local councils in a variety of quasi-criminal, administrative and disciplinary matters.
Throughout his time in practice, David has maintained a strong interest in working closely with members of the aboriginal community and has significant experience appearing as an advocate in the Koori Court. He has completed the Cultural Competency training offered by the Koori Heritage Trust.
Prior to coming to the Bar, David worked as a solicitor advocate practising in criminal law. During this time, he worked in private practice at Greg Thomas Barrister and Solicitor, the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and Victoria Legal Aid.
David read with His Honour Judge Simon Moglia. His senior mentor was Daniel Gurvich KC.
