Social Justice Advocacy
When Sir Owen Dixon was sworn in as Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia in 1952 he remarked "... it is the duty of the barrister to stand between the subject and the Crown, and between the rich and the poor, the powerful and the weak".
This is a duty the Victorian Bar takes very seriously. The Bar is aware of the important role it plays in making sure justice is available to everyone.
The Victorian Bar upholds key values of equality and justice to support the right of all members of society to access quality legal representation.
The members of the Bar engage in a wide range of activities which aim to ensure that access to the courts is open to all members of the community and to promote the rule of law including the proper administration of justice.
