A message from 2017 Victorian Bar Council President, Jennifer Batrouney QC
It is an honour for me to lead our Bar in 2017. I do so with the invaluable support of the Bar Council; an outstanding team comprised of leading barristers from all fields of practice.
The Victorian Bar is home to over 2,000 barristers. Their skills range from strategic advice, advocacy and litigation to mediation and alternative dispute resolution.
My vision for the Victorian Bar is to ensure that the Bar and its members continue to thrive . We will advance the distinctive professional skills of Victorian barristers by giving them the education, guidance and support they need to continue to serve the community with independence, excellence and integrity.
The Victorian Bar must continue to be a strong, independent and authoritative voice to safeguard the rule of law. The work we do - both as barristers and on Bar Council – matters greatly to our society and our justice system. We work collaboratively with civil society and legal institutions to support the justice system in Victoria and federally, and to advocate for improved access to justice.
It will be a busy year and I relish the opportunity to make my contribution to the great institution that is the Victorian Bar.
Jennifer Batrouney QC
