Rod is a senior Australian and international lawyer experienced in the conduct and resolution of complex disputes. He has been admitted in New South Wales, England & Wales, Hong Kong and Victoria, and has worked as a lawyer in Sydney, Hong Kong, Singapore and Melbourne.
Rod intially practiced as a solicitor with Baker & McKenzie, finishing as Partner in Charge of both the Insurance Practice Group and the Investment Funds Practice Group in their Hong Kong Office.
He then became General Counsel of AHC Limited, conducting inter alia the successful litigation against the Victorian Government in relation to the Latrobe Regional Hospital privatisation.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Rod was Asia Pacific Regional Legal Director of Cadbury Schweppes, as well as being the Chairman of the Cadbury Schweppes Asia Pacific Incident Management Committee. At Cadbury Schweppes, he successfully conducted major and well-known anti-trust litigation, major international patent enforcement litigation and also the "Purple Wars" colour purple trademark litigation.
Since coming to the Bar, Rod has undertaken mediations, and also appeared in the Supreme Court, the County Court and VCAT, and in particular has appeared (both as a Junior and solo) representing the TAC on numerous occasions in relation to serious injury claims.
Rod was an Accredited National Mediator from 2011 until 2013.
Rod has also had a parallel career as a medical doctor, working in hospitals in the USA, Hong Kong and Australia (most recently taking some time away from the Bar to work in the Emergency Departments at Box Hill Hospital and Casey Hospital), which provides him with a unique perspective in relation to disputes featuring medical issues.
Rod previously operated a vineyard for 10 years, and has also operated a cattle stud for 15 years, and is experienced in relation to the resolution of agricultural and planning disputes.
Rod is available as an senior independent mediator to assist in the resolution of complex and high value commerical, contractual, IP, competition law and planning & environmental disputes.
