Mark practises in public and administrative law and criminal law. In particular, Mark accepts briefs in disciplinary and regulatory matters, inquests and commissions of inquiry (civil and military). Mark has a particular interest in proceeds of crime matters, and appears for both the AFP/Commonwealth and private clients. Mark also appears in road traffic infringement matters and VOCAT hearings.
Mark accepts briefs in matters under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 and other mental health related tribunal work. Mark is also available to advise on medico-legal and institutional abuse matters. He has appeared before Commonwealth joint parliamentary committees inquiring into modern slavery issues, and is a member of the board of Slavery Links Australia Inc, a not-for-profit association advising on anti-slavery legislation.
Before joining the Bar Mark was a Registered General Nurse, specialising in paediatric operating theatre nursing in both Sydney and Melbourne. He also served in the Medical Branch of the Royal Australian Air Force in Australia and overseas.
Mark remains ordained as a bishop of the Anglican Church. While on active duty within the Royal Australian Navy, Mark served at sea and ashore in the Chaplaincy Branch, including time in the Persian Gulf during the 2003 Iraq War and in Banda Aceh and Nias following the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami.
Mark also has a Doctorate of Theology, with his thesis examining the theological, historical and philosophical roots of the Holocaust.
