Anna practices in civil, commercial and administrative law litigation in the Federal and State courts. Anna is also regularly briefed for government and regulatory bodies in inquests, inquiries and in a range of disciplinary proceedings. Anna has particular experience in complex representative proceedings or “class actions”.
Anna has represented the Victorian Bar on the Federal Court Class Actions user group.
Anna acted as junior counsel (with Richard Niall QC, Solicitor-General for Victoria, Melinda Richards SC, Crown Counsel for Victoria (as their Honours then were) and Richard Attiwill QC) for the Minister for Families and Children, Minister for Corrections, the State of Victoria and the Secretary to the Department of Health and Human Services in various Supreme Court proceedings in relation to the transfer and detention of youth at Barwon Prison following the riots at Parkville Youth Justice Centre (Certain Aboriginal Children by their Litigation Guardian Sister Marie Brigid Arthur v Minister for Families and Children ; and Certain Children by their Litigation Guardian Sister Marie Brigid Arthur v Minister for Families and Children  VSC 796).
Anna was previously briefed as junior counsel for several years in a number of large class actions, including for the State Parties and the CFA in the Kilmore-Kinglake (Matthews v SPI Electricity Pty Ltd  VSC 663 (2010 - 2014)) and and Murrindindi (Liesfield v SPI Electricity Pty Ltd  VSC 232 (2013 – current)) bushfire class actions following the Black Saturday bushfires (with Chris Caleo QC, Wendy Harris QC, Paul Anastassiou QC, Samantha Marks QC (as Her Honour then was)).
Anna has developed an extensive healthcare practice spanning inquests, common law and regulatory proceedings as well as encompassing aged care, residential care and related issues. Anna acts extensively in professional disciplinary proceedings, licensing and regulation proceedings for the Medical Board of Australia, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, the Psychology Board of Australia, the Dental Board of Australia, the Pharmacy Board of Australia and for a range of healthcare practitioners.
Anna's commercial practice has included acting in insolvency and finance-related matters; a range of Corporations Act matters including oppression actions, statutory demand cases, winding up applications, applications for security for costs, insolvent trading actions and preference actions. Anna has also been briefed in a range of insurance and general commercial matters including product liability claims, partnership disputes, contractual disputes, competition, trust and property related matters.
