Abhi Mukherjee specialises in medical negligence, coronial inquests, professional discipline and personal injury.
Abhi joined the Victorian Bar in 2013 with over 10 years experience as a barrister in London where he was and remains a member of the leading UK set, Outer Temple Chambers.
Since joining the Victorian Bar, Abhi has been instructed in a number of serious medical negligence cases involving issues such as the delayed diagnosis of cancer, surgical error, obstetric mismanagment, consent and and the wrongful application of medication.
Abhi has appeared in a number of significant coronial inquests. He recently appeared in inquests dealing with the death of a patient in post-operative care following a vascular surgery procedure and in a death from carbon monoxide poisoning. His inquest experience has also covered a neo-natal death which involved complex issues of paediatric care, a death in the course of a gastric band procedure and the case of a patient who died from heavy bleeding following gynaecological surgery.
Abhi also specialises in professional disciplinary work particulalrly that related to health practitioners. He has appeared at the Australian Health Practitioners Regulatory Authority (AHPRA) and before the Medical Board of Victoria where he has represented a range of medical personnel.
In his personal injury work, Abhi has dealt with cases involving complex medical issues. He has been instructed in Workcover and TAC matters. His experience includes industrial diseases such as asbestosis and mesothelioma.
Abhi regularly presents at CPD seminars to solicitors. He has spoken on 'Controversies in Causation' in relation to personal injury cases and on the ambit of non-delegable duty in cases of medical institiutions. He has organised and chaired panel discussions on a number of medico-legal topics.
