Michael Pearce practises in most areas of commercial law especially contract, property, trade practices, equity and company law. He appears in appeals in all civil jurisdictions and in civil penalty proceedings, including cases for breaches of directors' duties. He also practises in administrative law and constitutional law.
Before coming to the Bar, he worked for a number of years as a banking and finance solicitor. He also spent a year in the Federal Attorney-General's Department, worked as a research assistant at Hamburg University in Germany and for a law firm in Washington D.C. and New York. He was the editor of the Victorian Reports from 1995 - 2003 and the Consulting Editor until 2016. He was the President of Liberty Victoria from 2008-2010. He is a Vice-President of Scholarships for Australian-German Student Exchange (Vic) and a director and the responsible person of The Deloitte Foundation Ltd. Since 1 September 2012 he has been the Honorary Consul General for Germany in Melbourne. He was a Sessional Ombudsman with the Financial Ombudsman Service from 2013 - 2015.
