30Sep2020

Bar Roll No: 4574

It is with deep regret that we inform members of the passing of Robin Chan, who died on Monday evening after a long illness. Robin was 42 years of age.

An online service to Celebrate the life of the late Robin Chan was held on Tuesday 6th October at 10am.

Robin was born in Malaysia and largely educated in Singapore before coming to Australia to study at the University of Melbourne.

Robin was admitted to practise law in 2007. Prior to coming to the Bar, he was a solicitor at Deacons (now Norton Rose Fulbright).

He went on to become a Research Associate in the Court of Appeal Division of the Supreme Court of Victoria; Associate to the Honourable Justice Chris Maxwell AC, President of the Court of Appeal; Associate to the Honourable Justice Susan Kenny of the Federal Court; and to the Honourable Justice Habersberger of the Supreme Court.

Robin was called to the Bar in 2013, where he read with Frank O’Loughlin QC. Robin established a busy practice in commercial, equity, probate, and administrative law, specialising in tax law.

He is remembered by his friends and colleagues as having a cheery disposition and a big smile.  He was particularly fond and proud of his Bar heritage.

Robin leaves behind his parents, Cheng San Chan and Kim Bee Tong, sister Lee Shia Chan, brothers Weng Keong (Stan) Chan and Eng Bung (Jake) Chan and partner Jenny Foo.

Deepest sympathies are extended to Robin’s family.
