Bar Roll No: 923

It is with regret that we inform members of the passing of Colin Lovitt QC, who died on Sunday, 10 January. Colin was 76 years of age.

Colin was admitted to practise law in 1969 and was called to the Bar in 1970, where he read with the late John Fogarty AM. Colin was a leader of the Criminal Bar, serving on the Criminal Bar Association for many years, a number of which as Chairman. Colin had three readers, Leigh Thompson, Susan Miller, and Sean Grant. Colin was appointed silk in 1988.

Colin served as Chairman of the Essoign Club Board for over a decade and retired from the Bar in 2015.

He is remembered by his friends and colleagues as a barrister who had a heart of gold, who was most generous with his time and who helped and guided others, particularly juniors. He was a great advocate for his clients.

Colin leaves behind his wife Margaret, sons Marcus and Zane, and daughters-in-law Mieko and Kate. As per Colin’s wishes, a private cremation will be held.

Deepest sympathies are extended to Colin’s family.
