Appointments - George Georgiou SC and Judge Elizabeth Brimer

COUNTY COURT OF VICTORIA

The Governor in Council has appointed George Georgiou SC and Elizabeth Brimer QC as judges of the County Court of Victoria. Her Honour Judge Brimer commenced in the County Court yesterday. George Georgiou will commence tomorrow.

Mr Georgiou was admitted to practice in 1986 and came to the Bar in 1990. In 1994, he left the Bar to take a position as the Principal Legal Officer at the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission, returning to Victoria in 2001 to become a Senior Public Defender at Victoria Legal Aid. He returned to the Bar in 2007. Mr Georgiou has predominantly appeared in criminal law cases at all levels.

A swearing-in and welcome for His Honour Judge George Georgiou will be held in Court 3-3 of the County Court on Thursday 9 May at 9:15am.

Judge Brimer was admitted to practice in 1994 and came to the Bar in 1999. Her Honour’s contribution to the Bar includes serving on Bar Council and several important committees, including the Readers’ Course Committee and as an instructor in the Readers’ Course. She is the co-author, with the Hon George Hampel AM QC of Ethics & Etiquette for Advocates and with the Hon George Hampel AM QC and Randall Kune of the Advocacy Manual.

A swearing-in and welcome for Her Honour Judge Elizabeth Brimer will be held in Court 3-3 of the County Court on Thursday 2 May at 9:15am.
