Appointment & Welcomes - Magistrates Simon Guthrie, Mia Stylianou and Sharon Lea McRae

Magistrates’ Court of Victoria

The Governor in Council has appointed Simon Guthrie, Maria (Mia) Stylianou and Sharon Lea McRae as Magistrates. The appointments were made on Tuesday 26 June 2018.

Mr Guthrie was admitted to practice in 1985 and has practised as a Solicitor since then. He was a Partner in the firm Ryan Carlisle Thomas Lawyers and headed the firm’s Geelong office since its opening in 1993.

Ms Stylianou was admitted to practice in 1993 and has been at the Victorian Bar for more than 10 years, before which she was an Associate Public Defender at Victoria Legal Aid. She had been with Victoria Legal Aid more than 10 years.

Ms McRae was admitted to practice in 1997 and has been a Judicial Registrar of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria for approaching 7 years, before which she was a Solicitor with Robinson Gill Lawyers in Box Hill for 4 years and, before that, a Deputy Registrar of the Magistrates’ Court for more than 4 years.

The Profession will extend Welcomes to Their Honours at ceremonial sittings in Court 1 of the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court, Ground Floor, 233 William Street Melbourne on:

Friday 20 July 2018 at 9:15 am for Magistrates Guthrie and McRae; and

Thursday 2 August 2018 at 9:15 am for Magistrate Stylianou

All counsel who are able to do so are asked to attend. Counsel are not required to robe in the Magistrates’ Court.
