Appointment - Her Honour Judge Lisa Hannan as Chief Magistrate

The Governor in Council has today appointed her Honour Judge Lisa Hannan as Chief Magistrate of the Magistrates’ Court of Victoria, commencing on 17 November 2019.

Judge Hannan will replace Chief Magistrate Lauritsen on his retirement from the role.

Judge Hannan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University. She was admitted to practise in 1987 and worked at Galbally & O’Bryan until she was called to the Bar in 1988.

At the Bar, Judge Hannan read with Michael Tovey QC and developed a strong general criminal law practice. She served on the Bar’s Equality Before the Law Committee, the Women Barristers Association Committee, the Dever’s List Committee and the Criminal Bar Association Committee. She was an instructor in the Bar Readers’ Course.

Judge Hannan was appointed to the Magistrates’ Court in 1998. She served for eight years as a magistrate and coroner before being appointed as a judge of the County Court in 2006.
