Jury Directions Act 2015 as amended by the Jury Directions and Others Acts Amendment Act 2017

30Apr2019

The Jury Directions and Other Acts Amendment Act 2017 has made further changes to the Jury Directions Act 2015. These amendments have introduced a number of new evidentiary directions that include directions regarding the reliability of a witness’s evidence, a witness’s motive to lie and the complainants’ accounts of an alleged sexual offence.

Other significant changes have also been introduced (e.g. the application of the Jury Directions Act 2015 to criminal proceedings not involving a jury, amendments to law in relation to perseverance and majority directions). This is an essential session for all criminal barristers, kindly presented by Justice Weinberg who has led the team responsible for the development of at least some of the earlier statutory reforms.

*Please note this seminar is for Barrister's only.
