A Good Night's Sleep - The Relationship between Sleep and Professional Wellbeing for Barristers

22Aug2018

Inadequate sleep affects every aspect of the practice of the law and , when endemic, impedes professional development and performance. Sleep disruption has also been recognised by the courts as an indicator that an injury is “serious” within the meaning of accident compensation law and transport accident law.  This seminar will provide information about the consequences of sleep disruption and how to manage sleep loss.  The seminar has been commissioned by the Health and Wellbeing Committee to be focussed on the issues facing barristers.  Ms Bernadette Healy, psychologist, who provides services to the Bar and understands barristers’ issues with sleep deprivation will also provide commentary.

This seminar will also discuss some of the interim results of the health and wellbeing survey and how we at the Victorian Bar compare with barristers in NSW and England when asked about sleep and wellbeing.

There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion with Prof Katona.
