Federal Circuit and Family Court and the Victorian Bar Pro Bono Scheme Launch

26Oct2021

The Victorian Bar Pro Bono Committee invites you to the formal launch of a new pilot pro bono Scheme established between the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) and the Victorian Bar. The Scheme will be launched by the Honourable Chief Justice William Alstergren.

The Scheme is designed to enable the Court to request the assistance of pro-bono counsel to act for (or provide guidance to) an unrepresented person, or to act as amicus curiae. Such requests will be made only in relation to an issue or proceeding which is of sufficient complexity to warrant pro bono counsel in order to assist the Court and/or the applicant(s) or the respondent(s).

Referrals will be publicised via the Victorian Bar’s electronic Pro Bono Platform and notified via email to members of the Bar who specialise in Family Law, or to those who have expressed an interest in Family Law work.

The launch will coincide with a CPD Seminar, with the guest speakers discussing the operation of the Scheme, the criteria for referral of requests and the use of the Pro Bono Platform for the advertising and allocation of matters.
