“Wear it Purple Day” Seminar: Legal challenges faced by the Trans and Gender Diverse communities

What sort of protection does anti-discrimination law provide to Trans and Gender Diverse individuals? What rights do Trans and Gender Diverse individuals have in respect of their name and gender on ID documents?

Since early 2019, Dentons Australia, in partnership with the Inner City Legal Centre, has operated the Trans and Gender Diverse Legal Service, a first of its kind in Australia.  The Service provides free legal advice and ongoing pro bono assistance to Trans and Gender Diverse clients.  The issues above are just some that volunteer lawyers at the Service regularly advise upon.

To celebrate “Wear it Purple Day 2021”, the LGBTIQ Working Group of the Equality & Diversity Committee is proud to present this fascinating seminar, which will give an insight into the key legal issues commonly facing the Trans and Gender Diverse communities and why it is important that lawyers have a practical understanding of these unique issues.
