Farewell to The Honourable Justice David Ashley

A farewell sitting to mark the retirement of The Honourable Justice David Ashley as a Judge of the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of Victoria will be held on Wednesday 1 February 2012 at 4.30pm in the Banco Court, Supreme Court of Victoria. All counsel who are able to attend are requested to do so, robed including wigs.
Opening of the Legal Year 2012

The Governor will be attending the Red Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral this year. Some 20 Judges of the Supreme Court will be attending the various Church and Synagogue Services in Melbourne. The ICJ Community Observance is conveniently just over the road in Waldron Hall of the County Court, with Professor Carolyn Evans (Melbourne Law School Dean) and Professor Frank Brennan AO SJ as Guest Speakers. Those who organise these events are making a special effort this year. Bar members minded to do so are encouraged to attend and support them.

It is with deep regret that the Bar Council informs members of the death last night, Wednesday 18 January 2012, of Maurice Gurvich, retired Magistrate. Maurie (as he was universally known) was a member of this Bar and the Magistracy, for more than 42 years, including more than 20 years as a Magistrate.
