It is with deep regret that the Bar Council informs members of the death on 27 April 2011 of the Honourable Hubert Rofeno Frederico, retired Judge of the Family Court of Australia. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Xavier College Chapel, Barkers Road, Kew on Monday 2 May at 11 am.

LCA budget submission on Legal Aid

The Bar Council, through its representative on legal aid issues, Dr David Neal SC is urging the Commonwealth Attorney-General to put a National Partnership Agreement on legal aid on the COAG agenda.  As has been done in National Partnership Agreements on health and homelessness, the agreement should establish national objectives and  progress measures, as well a labour market planning and funding arrangements to achieve these objectives. Attached is the Law Council’s 2011  Budget submission and a graph showing the decline in federal government’s contribution to Legal Aid Commission funding since 1998.
