What will happen to a client who is not an Australian citizen if he or she is convicted of a criminal offence?
This seminar will focus on how different penalty options can affect the migration status of a "non-citizen".
It will deal with criminal deportation, and the cancellation of visas on character grounds (ss. 200 & 501 of the Migration Act 1958). It will also refer to the effect of certain sentencing outcomes on an application for citizenship (ss. 21(2)(h) & 24(6) of the Australian Citizenship Act 2007).
