Tony is both a barrister and a nationally accredited mediator with an extensive commercial practice in building and construction, commercial contracts, insurance, professional negligence, contamination, nuisance, local government, professional misconduct and water law. He has broad experience in resolving disputes through litigation, arbitration, mediation and other dispute resolution processes.
Tony has represented and advised a range of contractors, owners, construction professionals, professional indemnity and liability insurers, statutory authorities and local, state and federal government.
Tony has also advised government on law reform, particularly in relation to proportionate liability, insurance as it affects the construction industry, and the regulation of building surveyors. In 2007, Tony produced a report ‘Proportionate Liability: Towards National Consistency’ for a working group established by the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General (SCAG) to review the current national legislative framework on proportionate liability in order to make recommendations for achieving greater national consistency. Prior to coming to the Bar, Tony was a partner at DLA Phillips Fox for 10 years. From 1997 until 2005, Tony was a Member of the Victorian Legal Profession Tribunal, and is presently a Member of the VCAT Legal Practice List. He is a member of the VCAT Domestic Building List Users’ Group. Tony is a Senior Fellow of the University of Melbourne Law School, lecturing in postgraduate and undergraduate courses on construction and insurance law. He is also a guest lecturer at Monash University.
