BAR PRACTICE

1988- : Full-time mixed trial and appellate practice:


Compensation and Personal Injury Law: trial and appellate, plaintiff and defence, including WorkCover, transport accident, and public liability work, as well as plaintiff class action work, including Mobilio v Transport Accident Commission [1998] 3 VR 833; Transport Accident Commission v Lake (1998) 1 VR 616; Bentley v Furlan [1999] 3 VR 63. He has also been briefed in many of the major cases involving applications for compensation arising from criminal conduct under s85B of the Sentencing Act 1991 (Vic).  

Coronial Law
: many of the major coronial cases from the 1990s onwards and a number of appeals: including police shootings, Kew Cottages, the Canberra Implosion, jail suicides, hospital deaths, workplace deaths

Medico-Legal work: medical negligence, health advice, adoption, mental health matters, sterilisation issues, pathology accreditation.  

Criminal Law: trial and appellate, prosecuting and defending, including many Ct of Appeal matters, Supreme Court cases involving homicide charges & supervisory jurisdiction over persons found not guilty by reason of mental impairment or unfit to stand trial; also including the High Court decisions of Leach v The Queen [2007] HCA 3; (2007) 81 ALJR 598 and Latoudis v Casey (1990) 170 CLR 534
